Homework battles are common. A predictable routine reduces arguments and helps children develop independence.
Your role is to support, not to do the work for them.
Choose a regular time
Some children work best right after school with a snack; others need a break first. Find what works and keep it consistent.
Set up a workspace
A quiet, well-lit space with supplies to hand and distractions such as phones and TV away helps concentration.
Break tasks down
Help children break larger assignments into smaller steps and plan them across several days.
Support, do not take over
Ask questions rather than giving answers, and praise effort. Let teachers see where children are struggling.
Talk to the school
If homework regularly causes distress or takes far longer than expected, talk to your child’s teacher.
This is general parenting information, not medical advice. Every child is different — talk to your paediatrician, family doctor, or a qualified specialist about your child’s health, development, or behaviour. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
